A recent visit to Texas proved highly informative. A vibrant economy -- notwithstanding current global convulsions -- has made possible continuing investments in infrastructure, emerging technologies, health care facilities and nanotechnology research, to name a few.
Moreover, a collaborative approach to economic development in the Houston and Austin areas in particular speaks volumes for a sense of shared mission. While Texas has had the benefit of oil and gas revenues for many years, the ways in which these and other revenues have been deployed to foster economic development have made the difference.

Eye-opening.
